WHO Facing Growing Criticism for Provoking Alarm
by Steve RemingtonMay 8, 2009
The World Health Organization is facing a growing amount of criticism by many who feel the organization provoked unnecessary alarm by its sudden escalation of warnings over the Swine Flu. Due to the overwhelming claims that WHO bent the situation out of proportion, officials at the agency are discussing changes to the 6 point scale to make it clearer to the public the gravity of the threat.
The move comes against a backdrop of intensifying attacks on the WHO, which has been accused of “crying wolf” over its decisions to raise its pandemic alert from level three to an unprecedented five. This comes amid indications it may even go to the maximum level six.
